This piece of embroidery prompted the birth of Checkmate Embroidery. Our daughter Sam
embroidered the piece by hand. Several of our friends saw it, liked it and asked Sam to produce a
similar piece for them. After several discussions we decided to buy an embroidery machine and
Checkmate Embroidery was born.
Over the next few years the business grew producing badges, logos and other personalised items
for many local clubs, schools and businesses. Checkmate grew steadily gaining a reputation for
excellent quality items at reasonable prices.
The increase in popularity of dye sublimation and heat transfers and the requests from some of our
regular customers we invested in the equipment to produce these types of items. The reduction in set
up costs meant we can produce a single item very cost effectively.
